Gopher Dunes decided to hold their very own sprint enduro this past weekend. This event was not part of the off-road Ontario series but still brought in many regulars from OO as well as plenty of riders from all disciplines of moto.
The sprint enduro format is starting to take the motocross world by storm. It provides the technical riding of enduro with the blazing speed of motocross. It’s a relaxed format that allows riders to take breaks and make bike changes between loops.
Gopher Dunes Quicksand sprint enduro offered three different loops. A motocross loop featuring some woods riding with a full lap of the infamous Gopher Dunes track. A cross country loop which was a double wide trail through the woods that was insanely fast! Then a single track loop with extremely tight corners, bridges and roots.
You can’t help but love an event that brings out riders of all kinds, from Colton Faciotti to someone we thought could have been Ronnie Macs younger brother. You’d have to look pretty hard to find a rider that didn’t enjoy themselves at the Quicksand sprint enduro. Kudos to the Schusters for putting on such a great event.
It was awesome to see the motocross and woods world mix together at the Gopher dunes sprint enduro. The course tended to favour the motocrossers as the track section and xc loop made the most impact. My only suggestion would be to see some more technical features in the single track loop, perhaps a joker lane that would be a faster optional line but much more technical and risky. This could help level the playing field a little bit and make for some closer racing.
We took many more photos throughout the day. Please check out our Facebook album to see more photos from the event. Be sure to comment your name or tag your friends!
