Family fun day at RJs.
On July 16 2017 SCORRA hosted a family fun day at RJ Motosport park north of Barrie, Ontario. If you were unable to make it this year, I highly recommend you put it in your calendar for 2018.
The forecast had called for rain most of the week. If 2017 so far has taught us anything, it’s that the weather is far from predictable. We ended up with a beautiful hot summer day. However If you stayed till the very end, you would have gotten a nice shower while packing up.
The folks at SCORRA and RJs put together some great riding both on and off the property for us. The main track and youth track were open all day along with the trails used in the Off-road Ontario XC race held last month. Even though RJs had more than enough to keep us entertained, SCORRA went ahead and arrowed out a roughly 20km route through the Williams forest. This trail had a good mix of everything. Mud, logs, single track and fast fire roads made this a fun loop for any skill level. Andrzej who heads the Neo-ride program offered to take newer riders on a guided tour through the Williams loop first thing in the morning.
SCORRA also introduced its first “slow race” this year. The “slow race” qualifying was held throughout the morning. Riders would make there way form a start to finish in the slowest time possible. The course was roughly 60ft in length, about 6 ft wide and ended with a 90 degree turn. Riders could not leave their lane or touch the ground. If you did so, you would be disqualified. Eight riders would advance to the finals which were held over lunch time. Congratulations to Connor Brogan who took the slow race win!
SCORRA provided us a hearty BBQ lunch along with refreshments and some much needed freezies to cool us all down on such a hot day.
This event was a total blast to attend. It was great to be riding casually with folks I normally only get to race with. It was exactly as the day described, just plain fun.
I can’t offer enough thanks to the Simcoe county off-road riders association for putting on this great event. There were so many volunteers present to make the day such a success and each one deserves a big Thank you. There was plenty of riding, prizes, food and great company! Also a big thanks to RJs for holding the event on their wonderful property.
